Google announced on its Android official blog that the company will offer podcasts on the service and all US podcasters are invited to upload shows on a new launched portal.
In the past, Google had an application called Listen, which synced with Google Reader and the users were able to listen to podcasts, but it was discontinued because Google had plans to add podcasts directly to Google Play Music.
The music lovers will listen to their favorite songs and genres through a portal where every podcaster can upload content, even audio series and episodes. Elias Roman, Product Manager of Google Play Music wrote in the blog post that “We’re already working with more than a dozen of the most popular podcasters and networks to offer their shows when we open the service”.
The podcasters that are confirmed to upload shows on the new portal are: 5by5, Dan Carlin, Dave Ramsey, Earwolf, Feral Audio, Gimlet Media, HBO, Head Gum, HowStuffWorks, Loud Speakers Network, Nerdist / Legendary, Public Radio International, Radiotopia / PRX, Sideshow Network, Slate / Panoply, StarTalk Radio, This Week in Tech and Tim Ferriss. They will have access to Android’s user base which has over one billion people who are visiting the Google Play every month.
Google hasn’t specified the date when the users will take advantage of the addition of podcasts, but most likely, the giant company will come soon with new information. The good news is that the users will easily discover podcasts according to their tastes and on the Android blog, Elias Roman added that “Along with direct searches and browsing for podcasts, the service will connect new listeners with podcasts based on what they’re doing, how they’re feeling, or what they’re interested in.
Similar to our contextual playlists for music, this will give podcast fans and new listeners a way of finding and listening to content that’s unique to Google Play Music. Podcasters in the US can start uploading shows now at g.co/podcastportal”.
We’re pretty sure that the company will open its podcast section to the public in short time.
