Google has announced the Android 6.0 Marshmallow OS update which will firstly be released for the Nexus devices. However, there are other devices that are currently receiving the Android 5.1.1 Lollipop.

The Android 5.1.1 Lollipop OTA update has already started rolling out on Galaxy S5 devices that are connected on AT&T since October 22, 2015, this new update will fix many security issues, including the Stagefright exploit.

The Stagefright exploit was allowing hackers to gain access to your mobile device by sending a MMS, once the receiver opened the MMS, it allowed the hackers to connect to the infected devices and steal data from them.

If you haven’t received the Android 5.1.1 Lollipop OTA update yet, you can manually check if it is available for your Galaxy S5 device by going to Settings->About Phone->Software updates.

If you receive the Android 5.1.1 Lollipop update for your Galaxy S5, make sure that the device has 60% or more battery left and that you are connected to a Wi-Fi network to not waste mobile data.

Android 5.1.1 Lollipop OTA update and Galaxy S4

For now, there is no news regarding the Android Lollipop update for the Galaxy S4, there are rumors which say that this device might skip the Android Lollipop update and jump directly to the Android 6.0 Marshmallow. However, it will be quite risky to update the Galaxy S4 directly to Android 6.0 Marshmallow, as in March 2016 the device will turn three years old. We remind you that a warranty of a device is usually for a period of only two years and after that, there are high chances that the device will not receive further OS updates.

Do you think that the Galaxy S4 device will skip the Android 5.1.1 Lollipop and instead it will receive the Android 6.0 Marshmallow update?
