Reports indicate that Microsoft has been unwilling to encourage Windows 10 users to shift to Google Chrome.
For a long time, Microsoft users have used Internet Explorer for all their browsing needs. However, the users felt the urge to try different browsers such as Safari and Mozilla Firefox. With Windows 10, Microsoft seeks to encourage the users to forsake all the other browsers and stick with its Edge.
Loyalty to Edge Browser
Microsoft now seeks to discourage browsing in Windows 10 using browsers other than Edge. In this regard, upon installation of Windows 10, any moment you try shifting the browsers to either Firefox or Chrome, a prompt will appear on the screen asking you to try Edge. The prompt goes beyond providing you with the encouragement needed to remain faithful to Edge. It goes ahead to provide you with a few benefits that you stand to enjoy by choosing Edge over the rest.
Benefits of Edge Browser
A few of the benefits that the prompt will highlight include:
- Ability to write on web pages
- Cortana integration
- A reading view
Under the new strategy, Microsoft wants to make it difficult rather than impossible to leave Edge and move to different browsers. Therefore, expect a major battle trying to make Chrome or Firefox your default browser on a Windows 10 machine. The decision has already cast plenty of angst with browsers such as Mozilla Firefox. If you thought that the situation could not get more interesting, what would you say about Microsoft’s policy regarding music and photo apps?
Default Music and Photo Apps
Microsoft wants to employ the same strategy that it has put in place regarding browser with music and photo as well. Microsoft wants users not to change the default music and photo apps on any Windows 10 machine. If you try to change, a dialogue box will appear encouraging you not to move away from Groove Music as well as in-built photo apps. The decision or policy might be unpopular with other developers, but could work for Microsoft.
IE to Chrome Migration
The decision by Microsoft to update Internet Explorer is what initially convinced the users to move to Google Chrome. Microsoft wanted all Internet Explorer users to upgrade to Internet Explorer 11 by 2016. Microsoft announced that any person who refuses to update Internet Explorer by the set date would not be able to enjoy security updates. Microsoft has made the following decisions:
- Support for internet Explorer 9 will only be available for Windows Server 2008 and Windows Vista
- Support for Internet Explorer 10 would only be available for Windows 2012
- Support for Internet Explorer 11 will only be available for Windows 10, Windows Server 2012, Windows Server 2008, Windows 8.1, Windows 8 and Windows 7
However, install and browse on Windows 10.
