The A8 is a metal frame device and is slim at 5.9 mm thickness.
The phone looks elegant and has a good grip. The rear cover is not removable, and the display is 5.7 inches. On the base, there is a fingerprint sensor along with a physical home button, surrounded by other buttons for multi-tasking.
Display and Features
The 5.7 inches screen is an HD, Super AMOLED technology display, and it is sharp and vibrant. The screen is protected with a Corning, Gorilla Glass and offers a good experience for watching movies or playing games.
The device makes use of the Exynos 5430, Samsung’s proprietary chipset, with theocta-core processor and a quad-core processor, clocking at 1.8 GHz and 1.3 GHz respectively. The RAM is 2 GB, and there is 32 GB of internal storage available. You can also expand storage up to a maximum of 128 GB with the use of the microSD card slot in one of the two slots for SIM cards.
The card slot is for dual nano cards, with one card being a 4G and the other a 3G card. You can also opt for a single SIM and a microSD card to expand storage. Connectivity options are Wi-Fi 802.11 AC, Bluetooth 4.1 and GPS. It also has a fingerprint sensor and a proximity sensor among other features.
The A8 comes with TouchWiz layered on the Android operating system, just like the other Samsung devices. TouchWiz brings in Flipboard application on the home screen, an enhanced settings screen, widgets, etc. However, there is no unnecessary bloatware, and things have been toned down. However, some users prefer the stock Android experience compared to TouchWiz layering.
There are some applications, such as Smart Manager, WeChat and Galaxy Apps that come pre-installed, with the Flipboard application on the home page.
The scanner is seen on its home button, and it is functional. You can unlock the phone using it though it is not very quick.
This is the app store of Samsung and offers you several apps specific to camera usage. You can download Sports shot or Animated selfie shots and others. You can download these apps using a Samsung ID. Also, there is a Smart Manager that enables management of the storage and the RAM of the A8.
The A8 is responsive, and everything runs smoothly thanks to the Exynos 5430 that has been paired with a RAM of 2 GB. All usual tasks, such as messaging, making calls, gaming, web surfing and video streaming can be run without any hitch on the device. However, when you use heavy applications, there could be a problem of heating, as the phone becomes warm when gaming or watching a high bit rate video for an extended period. The call quality is good, and there is no distortion of sound.
It comes with a 16 MP rear camera and a 5 MP front camera. There are many modes in addition to the Auto mode, such as the Panorama, the Pro, the Continuous shot and the HDR and Night mode.
The A8 is a slim phone with many impressive aspects, such as the design, the camera and the battery. It is lightweight and performs without a hitch. Also, it has expandable storage, but the heating issue does crop up a bit.
