The latest WhatsApp version for Android is 2.12.326 and it was just released, the developers have been continuously working on enabling back the Google Drive feature and it seems that from now on, you will be able to save the WhatsApp chat history directly on the cloud.
The new WhatsApp 2.12.326 also comes with bug fixes and the application is way more stable than before.
WhatsApp 2.12.326: How To Use The Google Drive Feature
By default, the WhatsApp application is automatically saving the chat history every day at 3AM, but it does it on your microSD card. However, thanks to Google Drive, you can set the application to save the chat history on the cloud. To do this, open the WhatsApp application, tap on menu button from the top-right side and select Settings->Chats and Calls->Chat backup, here, you will notice that you can set your Google account and how frequent you want the application to save the chat history.
Select Back up to Google Drive and choose one of these three options: Daily, Weekly or Monthly”, we suggest you to set it to Daily, so that you can make sure you don’t lose too many messages in case your smartphone dies or if you lose it.
WhatsApp 2.12.326: How To Install On Your Android Device
WhatsApp 2.12.326 is currently in BETA, which means that you can’t find it on the Google Play Store, keep in mind that there are many websites that are hosting the APK file, but the safest place from where you can download it is whatsapp.com/android.
HINT: Make sure to enable the “Unknown Sources” option from your device’s Settings->Security or Settings->Application or you will NOT be able to install any APK file that you’ve downloaded from a third party source.
As soon as you have this option enabled, you will need to use a file manager application, then head to the folder where you’ve saved the WhatsApp 2.12.326 APK file and tap on it to start the installation process.
