On September 29, the Nexus 5X and 6P were available for pre-order in the UK, but now they are found in stores and their prices are: £339 and £379 for the 16GB and 32GB variants of the LG model, £449, £499 and £579 for the 32GB, 64GB and 128GB variants of the Huawei phablet. They come loaded with Android 6.0 Marshmallow out of the box, an operating system which is more secure and has a few new features, but let’s talk a bit about the latest Nexuses.

Designs and Displays

The “P” in Nexus 6P has two meanings: premium and phablet. Yes, it’s a high end phablet with a metal construction, but it doesn’t imitate any other Huawei flagship because it has a black camera band at the top of the back and a fingerprint scanner below it. The phablet is available in three options of colors: Aluminum, Graphite and Frost, it has a thickness of 7.3mm and it weights 178 grams. Its screen isn’t as large as the one from the Nexus 6, since it measures 5.7-inch, but it still uses Samsung’s AMOLED technology and it’s capable of supporting a QHD resolution of 1440×2560 pixels. The images are very sharp, because the pixel density stands at 518ppi.

The Nexus 5X has been redesigned and it doesn’t look like its predecessor, the Nexus 5, which had a plastic floating arc design. This model has now a rectangular body, which means that all its sides are flat, but the body is slightly bigger, because LG wanted to fit a 5.2-inch screen, but the Full HD resolution hasn’t been changed, resulting in a lower pixel density of 424ppi. This model has also a fingerprint scanner on its back, being placed under the protruding rear camera, this phone has a thickness of 7.9mm and it weights 136grams, while its color options are Carbon, Quartz and Ice.

The Nexus 5X is supposed to be the mid-range variant, while the Nexus 6P has top-top tier specs. Both phones are powered by Qualcomm processors, but the Nexus 5X has the hexa core Snapdragon 808 processor which is backed by 2GB of RAM, while the Nexus 6P has the octa core processor with 3GB of RAM. It’s obvious which phone has a better performance.

None of the Nexuses has a microSD card slot, but while the Nexus 5X offers two variants of 16 and 32GB, the Nexus 6P comes in three options of 32/64/128 GB.

Inside the Nexus 6P has been integrated a large 3450 mAh battery, while the Nexus 5X is doing ok with its 2700 mAh cell, however, both devices have a Micro USB Type-C port which can be used for charging the battery or for transferring data.

The rear cameras are similar, supporting around 12MP and they have identical features: laser autofocus, dual-LED (dual tone) flash, 1.55µm pixel size, HDR and 2160p video capture at 30fps. However, while LG equipped its Nexus 5X with a 5MP front camera, Huawei provided a better 8MP shooter.
