Snapchat and Facebook are two leading companies when it comes to the social media realm.
These two are now locked in a head-to-head battle with respect to video supremacy.
Someone, somewhere might be asking, how the hell Snapchat can beat Facebook, yet the former’s total user base is only a small fraction of the latter. Well, latest indicators show that Snapchat’s daily video views are growing at a much faster rate than what is being experienced on Facebook.
Snapchat is growing while Facebook is slowing
The latest reports say that both Snapchat and Facebook enjoy more than 4 billion daily video views. This is somehow surprising, because Facebook has over 1.5 billion users while Snapchat has a mere 200 million users.
When pitted against each other, Facebook is showing a slow growth in daily video views as compared to Snapchat. When the former last released its stats, which was April this year, there was an increase from 3 billion to 4 billion in the three-month period that ended in April. However, the latter revealed its stats just about a month ago and according to the report, the app had recorded a growth of daily video views from 2 billion to 4 billion over the same three-month duration that ended this August.
It is true to say that the figures are from two different three-month periods. However, it is also true to say that the growth experienced by Snapchat is bigger than what Facebook experienced. Snapchat only needed five weeks to jump from 3 billion to 4 billion, whereas it took Facebook 3 months to gain the same number of users. YouTube achieved this 4 billion mark back in 2012. However, it no longer reveals stats about daily video views, and instead, it only shows the total watch time.
More than 75% of Facebook’s daily video views come from mobile devices
While there were no further revelations from Facebook with respect to current figures, it revealed that at least 75% of its daily video views are mobile-based. This is contrary to Snapchat, which is a mobile-only app and as such, all of its 4 billion daily views come from mobile devices.
Facebook reached the 1 billion daily video views back in September 2014; this figure had tripped by the time January 2015 came around. In April, the number stood at 4 billion. On the other hand, Snapchat started making its daily video views public when it had reached 2 billion, and this was in May this year. Towards the end of July, the figure had increased to 3 billion and last month, it stood at 4 billion.
This is an indication that Snapchat may soon overtake Facebook with respect to daily video views, despite the former having only a fraction of the latter’s user base.
