Microsoft got its mojo back, causing Apple serious reasons for concern, because one of its latest big boys, the Surface Pro 4 has what this tablet needed to beat the iPad pro in Microsoft’s territory. Apple was running out of ideas and seeing how successful the Surface tablets were, the company decided to bring a hybrid – a tablet which can be converted into a laptop by attaching a keyboard, and its specs were pretty admirable. But, Microsoft wasn’t going to lose the battle in front of Apple and brought a more powerful tablet. Below, you’ll find a detailed comparison between the Surface Pro 4 and the iPad Pro.
Designs, Dimensions and Displays
The tablet has a silver-colored magnesium design (similar to that of the Surface Pro 3) with these dimensions are 292.1×201.42×8.45mm, but the tablet has two variants of weights: the model which is powered by a Core M processor weights 766 grams, while the model equipped with an i5 or an i7 processor is 20 grams heavier. The device has a triple hinge magnet which is used to attach the Type Cover, which is sold separately and which costs around $130. The Surface Pro 4 has a 12.3-inch PixelTouch display with an aspect ratio of 3:2 and the resolution is 2736×1824 at 267ppi (5 million pixels).
The iPad Pro is similar to the iPad Air 2 in terms of design, featuring an aluminum body, but it features four innovative speakers and it’s the largest Apple tablet ever, measuring
305.7×220.6×6.9mm, but it’s available in two variants: the Wi-Fi model weights 713grams, while the Wi-Fi + Cellular model is 10 grams heavier. Its screen measures 12.9-inch and supports 5.6 million pixels (2732×2048 pixels resolution at 264pixels). Also, the screen is fingerprint-resistant, being protected by an oleophobic coating.
The iPad Pro comes with the 3rd generation 64-Bit Apple A9X processor which runs at a speed of 2.25GHz and it’s paired with the new M9 motion coprocessor and 4GB of RAM. The WiFi model has 32 or 128GB of flash memory, while the Wi-Fi + Cellular model has 128GB of flash memory.
The Surface Pro 4 is powered by the 6th Gen Intel Core M3 clocked at 2.2GHz (Intel HD graphics), i5 clocked at 2.5GHz (Intel HD graphics 520), or i7 clocked at 2.7GHz (Intel Iris 540 graphics) Skylake processor, and the configurations include 4GB, 8GB or 16GB of RAM with four variants of internal memories: 128GB, 256GB, 512GB or 1TB, but the for the variants with smaller internal memory, Microsoft added a microSD card slot for expansion.
The battery of the Surface Pro 4 is expected to last around 9 hours, while the iPad Pro should last one hour more, according to Apple.
The front camera of the Surface Pro 4 supports a resolution of 5MP and Microsoft included the Windows Hello facial recognition for unlocking the device, while the rear camera is 8MP. The iPad Pro has an 8MP back camera with an ƒ/2.4 aperture and 1.12µm pixel size, while the front camera is 1.2MP.
