Samsung has suffered a lot in terms of sales since the launch of the iPhone 6 and the iPhone 6 Plus.

Both these phones finally brought to Apple one of the significant selling points of a Samsung phone – a large display. The advantage for the Apple devices has increased tremendously in the last 12 months. It has forced Samsung to come out with the latest version of the Galaxy Note much earlier than expected. The Galaxy Note 5 was launched a few weeks ahead of the iPhone 6S Plus, but does it have the staying power to go on for another 12 months?

The iPhone 6S Plus disappoints immensely in this aspect since there is not much new in this area. In fact, the phone looks very similar to the previous generation. Apple has instead focused on improving the core of the device. This revolves around using a stronger aluminum body for preventing any bendgate talk. The thickness and weight of the device have increased because of it. The Galaxy Note 5 gets a significant advantage in this area. Its design has been completely revamped from the bottom up.

Gone are the fake leather covering in the rear and the phone now has a glossy finish at the back similar to the Galaxy S6. Even though it may be a fingerprint magnet, it provides a premium look to the device that was lacking until now. The bezels have been reduced so much that the phone has been able to have the same5.7-inch screen in a device that is almost 2 mm thinner in the sides compared to the iPhone 6S Plus.

The Galaxy Note 5 has an obvious advantage in terms of display size and resolution. It is an advantage that existed even in the previous generation. In terms of size, the differences may not be so obvious but it is certainly true in the case of the details. Due to the QHD resolution on board, the Galaxy Note 5 feels much more clear and detailed in several areas. The iPhone 6S Plus continues with the same 1080p resolution that is starting to get obsolete at the higher end of the smartphone segment. It was badly in need of a revamp, but Apple seems ready to wait for another generation.

To compensate for the lack of a high resolution, Apple has provided a new feature called 3D Touch on the iPhone 6S Plus. It provides quick access to frequently used functions within an app. The system is extremely complex and intelligent enough to understand the differences in the pressure of a touch. It then provides different context menus based on the touch pressure. The Galaxy Note 5 has the advantage of a stylus, which is now improved in terms of features and design. Prices of the Galaxy Note 5 start at around $700 while the 16 GB iPhone 6S Plus retails at $750.
