Apple kept its promise and released a new iPhone, but the bad news is that it didn’t come with many upgrades, so that the old launch price could be retained at 649 dollars, for the 16GB variant. Sony has increased its collection with a new Z line of smartphones, containing the Z5 Premium, Z5 and the Z5 Compact. We’ll focus on the second model and we’ll compare it with the iPhone 6S.
Designs and Dimensions
Both devices look extraordinary, but have different builds. The iPhone 6S is made of aluminum (7000 series) and it’s more compact, no longer bendable, and slightly larger than the previous iPhone 6, but you won’t notice that the chassis is a bit thicker. However, you’ll find a new color option, Rose Gold, which will look great in the hands of a woman. The iPhone 6S is 20 grams heavier than its predecessor, weighting 143grams, while its dimensions are 138x67x7.1mm. On the front side is located the popular fingerprint scanner, which sits below the 4.7-inch Retina HD display. Underneath was integrated the 3D Touch technology, which will allow you to interact better with your device, based on the level of pressure you’ll apply to the screen.
The Xperia Z5 has an all-glass body with metal trim, a fingerprint scanner and a larger IPS LCD screen with a Full HD resolution (1920×1080 pixels at 424ppi). The dimensions of the Xperia Z5 are 146x72x7.3mm and it’s heavier at 154g.
Qualcomm released its 64bit Snapdragon 810 octa core processor at the beginning of this year and many manufacturers used it to equip their flagships. And the Xperia Z5 has paired it with 3GB of RAM, but in some situations, it overheats and affects the performance of the device. But in the multi core tests, the Snapdragon 810 obtained a higher score than Apple’s A9 processor. The good part is that this new processor is 70 percent faster than the A8 and it’s paired with 2GB of RAM.
The storage options haven’t suffered any change, still supporting capacities of 16GB, 64GB, 128GB, but they can’t be expanded, while the Xperia Z5 houses an internal memory of 32GB and using a microSD card, its capacity can be expanded up to 200GB.
Cameras and Batteries
One of the significant improvements that have been made to the iPhone 6S is the increase of resolution of its cameras. So, the back camera has been upgraded from 8MP to 12MP and now it supports 4K video recording, while the front camera supports 5MP and thanks to a new technology used by Apple, it doesn’t need a LED flash to take selfies in the dark, because the screen brightens enough and lightens the face of the user. The Xperia Z5 has a back camera with a higher resolution of 23MP which supports phase detection autofocus (it focuses in 0.03 seconds) and 4K video capture, while the front camera is 5.1MP.
The iPhone 6S is powered by the same 1,715mAh battery which has a longer life, thanks to the new iOS 9 and its power efficiency improvements. The Xperia Z5 is fitted with a bigger 2,900mAh cell, which supports 10 hours of HD video playback.
