The Samsung Galaxy Note 5 is one of the latest phablets launched by Samsung in the Note series in late August and early September 2015 across the globe.

Very much like its predecessors, the Galaxy Note 5 is provided with an S Pen stylus for its ease of use. While at first glance, the Note 5 looks very much like the earlier Samsung Galaxy Note 5 phablet, there are quite a few promising differences that can hardly go unnoticed. The Samsung Note 5 is designed to function using a nano-SIM and an irremovable battery.

Dimensions, Weight and Body Material

This recent Samsung phablet is definitely big in size visually, with dimensions of 153.2 x 76.1 x 7.6mm, but is surprisingly not as big and thick as the Samsung Galaxy Note 4. While the overall size difference is only marginal, the thickness variation is definitely visible. The phablet’s weight has also reduced by 5g and has an overall weight of 171g. The power and volume control buttons on the side are also quite thin. The body material has also undergone a radical change with Samsung discarding its usual faux leather option for the back. The Galaxy Note 5 makes use of a metal frame with a glass sheet fitted into it. Also, the glass is curved inwards on the sides resulting in making it painless to hold in your hand. The stylus also renders enhanced writing capabilities such as allowing you to use it for taking down notes even when the screen is off.

Screen Display and Resolution

Housing a 5.7-inch screen, the Samsung Note 5 features Samsung’s traditional Super AMOLED touch screen display. With a pixel resolution of 1440 x 2560, the phablet has a fairly concentrated pixel density of approximately 518ppi. Capable of delivering 16 million colors, Samsung protects the screen of its phablet with a Corning Gorilla Glass 4 glass. The screen to body ratio is pretty close to 76%. Brightness is very good in the Galaxy Note 5 and outdoor visibility is really better than in the previous versions.

The Samsung Galaxy Note 5 has two cameras – a rear primary 16MP camera with 5312 x 2988 pixel resolution and a front secondary 5MP camera. The rear camera supports many capabilities that include dual shot capturing and video recording, geo-tagging, touch and auto focus, LED flash, smile and face detection, HDR, optical image and stabilization and panorama. The optical image stabilization feature ensures that shots captured in low lighting situations are crisp and clear that in turn result in good quality. The selfie technology incorporated in the front camera has been made better with improvised filters and 120 degree wide selfie angle.

Hardware, Operating System and Memory

Samsung offers its Note 5 with an octa-core processor that is actually two quad core processors clocking at 2.1GHz and 1.5GHz. It also features the Mali-T760MP8 graphics processor. Like any other Samsung gadget, the Galaxy Note 5 operates on Android. It features the Android 5.1.1 Lollipop, the up to date version of the operating system. Moreover, the TouchWiz UI that is an integral aspect of the Samsung gadgets has undergone refinement. Because of the large screen size, five apps are displayed on a single screen instead of the usual four.

Although there is no way you can use a memory card, the device has ample internal memory apart from the 4GB RAM. There are two internal memory variants of the Note 5 – 32GB and 64GB ROM.

Connectivity and Battery

Samsung ensures that its Samsung Galaxy Note 5 supports the commonly used Wi-Fi and Wi-Fi Direct, Bluetooth, GPS and NFC connectivity options. Its 3,000 mAh battery supports both wireless and normal charging options. The fast charging feature is present in this device also. With this option, a completely dead phablet can be charged in slightly less than one a half hours. This takes close to four and a half hours using a USB charger.
