Every one owning a smartphone enjoys using messaging apps because they are fun, easy and free.
WhatsApp is one of those apps and it gets users hooked on it right from the start. Those of you, who have an iPhone device can also enjoy Apple’s own IM app, moniker iMessage. But for some reason, iPhone users cannot resist the temptation of downloading WhatsApp on their handset. So, should you stick to both of them or just one? Check out their similarities and dissimilarities below and decide which one is a keeper:
iMessage and WhatsApp are free to use. The former app is preset in your iPhone device and whenever you are linked to an internet network, your chat bubble will turn blue. WhatsApp on the other hand can be easily set-up from the App Store and it’s free of charge.
WhatsApp allows you to play around with your status whereas iMessage does not have this element included. So, when you message someone in iMessage, that person can check out their messages only if they are online. But the lack of status is not necessarily a bad thing, especially if you value your privacy.
With iMessage, you have of course the IM element, sharing multimedia files and sending a video message even. WhatsAapp has the same features, however the big plus here is that you can also share your contacts and even your location. FaceTime is the app you need to use for video and voice calls, however you will have to leave the iMessage app to do so whilst with WhatsApp you can remain in the actual app.
Based on the Web
Both iMessage and WhatsApp recur to the web to allow your message to get through or to receive one. However, when the connection is poor or lacking, here is where the distinction emerges. WhatsApp doesn’t work when you do not have a Wi-Fi whereas iMessage has a special compensation. Even if the latter is also enabled when you have Wi-Fi connection, if you lose the signal this app returns to its standard text messaging status, so you can still be in touch with the other person. Also, when you are not online in the latter app, someone can still send you a text message.
