Both tablets can be bought from Best Buy, where they cost $349.99 with a two-year contract. This doesn’t mean that they have similar specs, because Apple and Samsung are direct competitors in an endless war where they’re trying to beat one another. We’ll compare these phablets and you’ll decide which one deserves your money.

Designs and Displays

Apple is famous for its unique style and for using aluminum to build the chassis of its devices. None of its phones or tablets has a removable back, which means that the battery is non-removable and the internal memory doesn’t support expansion. The iPhone 6S no longer has the bending problem, because the material is tougher, affecting the dimensions of the device. Now, the iPhone 6S Plus is 0.1mm taller, 0.1mm wider and 0.2mm thicker than its predecessor, plus it’s 20grams heavier.

In addition, Apple brought a new color option, Rose Gold, which will please many female buyers. As for the screen, it’s still sized at 5.5-inch and it’s covered by the Ion-X glass, which protects the Apple Watch Sport. Also, the resolution is stuck at 1080 x 1920 pixels, resulting in a pixel density of 401 ppi. The awaited Touch Force technology has been added and it will improve the interaction between the user and the device.

The Note 5 is the copy of the Galaxy S6, featuring a glass and metal design which replaces the outdated faux leather pattern from the Note 4. It’s obviously taller and thicker, it has the fingerprint scanner, which is PayPal certified and the S Pen stylus has been improved. The screen measures 5.7-inch, it uses Super AMOLED technology, which produces more vibrant colors, and it supports QHD resolution of 1440 x 2560 pixels at 518 ppi. The screen is also sharper and brighter, beating Apple’s display with Full HD resolution.

We don’t have any information about the performance of the new A9 processor freshly released by Apple, but we know that it has two cores clocked at 2GHz, which are backed by 2GB of RAM. When the phablet will be tested, we’ll return with the results.

The Note 5 uses the same processor that powers the Galaxy S6, being the octa-core Exynos 7420 which was built using a 14nm process, but it has an extra GB of RAM, so it’s relatively faster than the smartphone, which has 3GB of RAM.

None of the phablets has expandable storage, and the options for the iPhone 6S Plus are 16/64/128 GB, while the Note 5 has two variants of 32/64 GB.

The Note 5 has a 16MP rear camera with optical image stabilization and 2K video recording, while the front camera is 5MP. The images are very accurate and colorful, which is normal for a Samsung device, but Apple has an ace up its sleeve, because the rear camera which was upgraded to 12MP surely has an improved software which allows it to record 4K videos and to capture images with optical image stabilization and phase detection autofocus. Also, the front camera is more advanced, being increased from 1.2MP to 5MP.
