The newly unveiled iPad Pro tablet is challenging the one year old iPad Air 2, which has a smaller display. We’ll compare their specs and features and you’ll see what has “evolved” over the past 12 months. First of all, to break the ice, we’ll tell you that the iPad Pro, which is a premium product, has the largest screen ever created by Apple.
Both tablets have aluminum bodies with minimal bezel, but while the iPad Air 2 has stereo speaker grilles right next to each other, the iPad Pro has four speakers, in total, to deliver a better sound experience.
The iPad Pro had more room to add the two speakers, because it’s very large, having a height of 305.7mm, a width of 220.6mm and a thickness of 6.9 mm. The WiFi model weights 713grams, while the LTE variant is 10 grams heavier. The Air 2 is slimmer, measuring 6.1mm, but if you are interested to know how tall or wide it is, then we’ll inform you that the dimensions are 240mm and 169.5mm respectively. The tablet is available also in two variants, so the WiFi model weights 437 grams, with 7 grams less than the 3G/LTE version. On both tablets’ front panels was placed a fingerprint scanner which can be used by tapping the home button located below the screen.
The iPad Pro has a 12.9-inch LED-backlit IPS LCD with a high resolution of 2732 x 2048 pixels and 265ppi. The iPad Air 2 crammed in 3.1 million pixels on the same resolution, for 264 ppi.
Apple kept improving its technology and created a new processor (A9X) which is 1.8 times faster than the previous A8X processor, plus the RAM capacity has been doubled.
None of the two cameras have been upgraded, which means that the iSight rear camera has the same resolution of 8MP, while the FaceTime camera from the front supports 1.2MP. Both main cameras lack LED flash, but they can capture 1080p30fps videos.
The iPad Pro has its own Pencil stylus, but you’ll buy it separately, and it costs $99. If you want to convert the tablet into a laptop, you can attach a Smart Keyboard, which is priced at $169.
The price of the iPad Air 2 starts from 499 dollars (16GB variant), and you’ll add 100 dollars for each variant with more storage.
The WiFi iPad Pro model with 32GB of storage costs 800 dollars, while the 128GB variant is 150 dollars more expensive. The price of the 128GB WiFi and LTE model is 1079 dollars.
