Sony Xperia is no doubt the best Sony smartphone. At the same time, Samsung Galaxy S6 happens to be the best smartphone that Samsung has manufactured.

So, which of these two flagships is better? Well, the only way to find out is to put them on the same scale and find out which one outweighs the other.

Design, quality of build and display

If you are familiar with Sony Xperia models, you will see the same design in this new Xperia Z5 model. Metal and glass are all over, and the build is sleek, just like its predecessors. On the other hand, Samsung dropped the poor choice of materials it has had for its previous flagships and came out with a sleek metal and glass design for this new Galaxy S6.

The Xperia Z5 packs a 5.2 inch full HD LCD screen that manages a resolution of 1920 by 1080 pixels, with a pixel density of 424ppi. Sony is well versed with screens and with the new Z5, the display is bright and gives excellent viewing angles as well as color reproduction.

Even though this display is amazing, the Galaxy S6 has better things in store. With a 5.1 inch Super AMOLED QHD display that manages a resolution of 2560 by 1440 pixels and a pixel density of 577 pixels, the Galaxy S6 is the better phone in terms of display quality.

Processor and memory

Sony has done away with the 16GB model and the Xperia Z5 now features a minimum of 32GB. The good thing here is that you will get extra storage space via a microSD slot. The processor is the latest octa-core Snapdragon 810 that is clocked at 2GHz and has a RAM of 3GB.

On the other hand, Samsung installed an in-house octa-core Exynos 7420 processor that is clocked at 2.1GHz and has a RAM of 3GB as well. The flagship is available in variants of 32GB, 63GB and 128GB, but there is no microSD card slot on each variant.

Software and battery unit

Sony Xperia Z5 comes with Android 5.1.1 Lollipop out of the box, and an update to Android Marshmallow will be availed towards the year end or early next year. The Galaxy S6, on the other hand, features Android 5.0.2 Lollipop out of the box, but it has already received the update to Android 5.1.1.

In terms of power, Sony will pack a better battery unit of 2,900mAh in the Xperia Z5 as compared to the 2550mAh that ships with the Galaxy S6.

Sony is best-known in the field of cameras thanks to its powerful sensors that dominate the world digital camera. Nonetheless, the Xperia Z5 represents the Sony smartphone with the best camera ever. At 23MP on the rear and 5.1MP on the front, taking photos with this device will never be better. Both snappers come with an Exmor RS sensor, but only the rear snapper has optical image stabilization.

Samsung Galaxy S6 is ranked as the smartphone with the best smartphone. This is despite its smaller number of megapixels on the rear snapper (16MP) when compared to the Z5. On the front, there is a 5MP snapper, which does perfectly well as far as selfies are concerned.
