Google will unveil not one, but two phones, and their official announcement is reported to happen on September 29. The smaller Nexus 5 2015 was manufactured by the same company that brought the first Nexus 5 – LG, while the larger variant was built by Huawei, after Motorola didn’t make the best impression with the Nexus 6.
Sony, on the other hand, had some problems with the sales of the Xperia Z3 and Xperia Z3+, losing $1 million per day, so it’s time to think about a change in strategy. There are rumors saying that the company is working on the Z5 family and these phones will come with 4K video capabilities.
Nexus 5 2015
Google offers the biggest names in the mobile industry the possibility to test out the next Android OS on the devices they release under the brand of Nexus. This year, we’ll have two smartphones and the most awaited one is created by LG, the company that had a big success with the models released back in 2012 and 2013.
The Nexus 5 2015 is rumored to feature a 5.2-inch screen with Full HD resolution, not 2K, it will be powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 808 hexa core processor which will be backed by Adreno 418 graphics and 3GB of RAM and will house 16 or 32Gb of internal storage.
The back camera will be 12.3MP and will have a bulge around it (the thickness is expanding from 8mm to 9.8mm in that area), while the front camera will be 5MP. Below the rear camera will be placed a fingerprint scanner which will support Android Pay (introduced in Marshmallow). According to the latest leaks, the Nexus 5 2015 will have a height of 146.9mm, a width of 72.9mm and its body will be made of plastic. In addition, the battery will be slightly increased to 2,700 mAh and there will be a USB Type-C connector on the bottom of the device.
Sony is planning to bring the world’s first 4K phone display, but the Xperia Z5 will retain the same 5.2-inch screen as the Z3/Z3+ and will come with Full HD resolution, while the Z5 Compact is rumored to have a 4.6-inch 720p display. As for the specs, the Z5 is expected to run on a Snapdragon 810 octa core processor with 3GB of RAM, it will support 32GB of internal storage and will house a battery of 2,900mAh.
The Z5 Compact will have weaker specs, such as a battery of 2,700mAh and 2GB of RAM. In parallel, Sony has been working on the Xperia Z5 Premium, which has the same Snapdragon 810 processor and 3GB of RAM as the Z5, but the battery is impressive, supporting 3,430mAh.
The Premium variant has a thickness of 7.8mm and comes in three color options: black, gold and chrome, the back has a mirrored glass and the screen measures 5.5-inch. The Z5 is available in white, black, gold and green and its thickness is 7.3mm, while the Compact variant is 8.3mm thick. All three Z5 models will shoot 4K videos, but only the Premium variant will play footage back natively.
