Windows 8 was a total disaster and this is the reason why many users decided to upgrade for free to Windows 10. However, Windows 10 is not flawless and still comes with bugs and other annoying issues that we hate.

We agree that the new operating system comes with some nice stuff such as Cortana, Virtual Desktops, windowed Windows Store applications, Direct 12, the revamped Start Menu, but there are still lots of stuffs that need to be fixed.

PDFs In Microsoft’s Edge

The Microsoft Edge browser is your default PDF reader. So in case you will not install the Adobe Reader application on your computer, the default application that will be used to open PDFs is the Microsoft Edge.

PDF to MS Word

However, according to reports, the Microsoft Edge is not a good PDF reader. There is also an alternative to the Adobe Reader and that is Microsoft’s Reader app, which is available in the Windows Store and you can download it for free!

To set a default application for PDF documents, go to Control Panel->Programs->Default Programs->Set your default Programs. After that, select the Microsoft Reader and click on “Choose default for this program and check the box in front of “PDF”. Finally, click on “Save” and you’re done!

Windows 10 “Forced” Updates: How To Disable Them

The Windows 10 home users are pretty much “forced” now to accept and install new updates. This can be quite annoying, because there are sometimes some bad updates that mess up your operating system. At the same time, there are some updates which require you to reboot the computer, which we’re pretty sure that you will not want to do if you are in the middle of something.

Facebook Messenger Update, Windows 10 Mobile

You can set your Wi-Fi connection to metered, and by doing this, the Windows 10 will allow you to download updates only when you want to. To set your Wi-Fi connection as metered, head to Settings->Network & Internet->Wi-Fi->Advanced Options->Set as metered connection.

Stop Cortana From Using Bing

Cortana will automatically direct you to Bing for any web searches that you perform. However, you can still stick to Google, Yahoo or any other search engine you want. To do this, just use Firefox as your default browser. Firefox comes with a feature in Windows 10 that detects Cortana searches and sends them to your default search engine.

Windows P2P

It seems that Microsoft came with an interesting idea for delivering updates in Windows 10. The updates are installed now peer-to-peer, which means that your Windows 10 PC shares system files with other PCs via your home network and across the internet. This way, the people are able to download from you and you are able to download from them without having to worry about Microsoft’s servers.

However, if you don’t like the idea, you can always turn off this feature by going to Settings->Update & Security->Windows Update->Advanced options->Choose how updates are delivered and turn off the slider.
