According to some rumors, LG and Samsung are planning to skip the Android 5.1.1 Lollipop because they’re waiting for the Android 6.0 or Marshmallow to be launched this month and the companies will roll out this update to their flagships as soon as possible.
None of the South Korean companies have confirmed this yet, but the rumors say that they will roll out the Android 6.0 Marshmallow to their most important phones in late September, in the best case, or at the end of the year. Currently, LG and Samsung are making great efforts to get the update ready for their flagships.
Some of the LG and Samsung phones were updated to Android 5.1 Lollipop via OTA, while others are stuck with Android 5.0. LG’s three generations of flagships (G2, G3, G3) and Samsung’s latest Galaxy S6 and Galaxy S6 Edge are running on Android 5.1 Lollipop, while the Note 5 and S6 Edge+, which were released last month, came with Android 5.1.1 Lollipop out of the box.
It isn’t the first time when LG is skipping Android updates. Instead of rolling out the 4.4.4 KitKat update, the company waited and upgraded its devices to Android 5.0 Lollipop. We believe that the G2, G3 and G4 will be the first phones to get the Android 6.0 Marshmallow, and the Samsung devices that will receive this treatment are the ones we’ve mentioned above.
However, it is rumored that there are many other mid-range phones waiting in line to be upgraded to Marshmallow, but we haven’t seen a list with their names yet.
Android 6.0 Marshmallow will come with many bug fixes, which will improve the battery life and will optimize the system performance. The new features that Marshmallow will bring are: Android Pay, Fingerprint scanner support, Samsung Pay support, App permissions, App links and Doze, the battery saver.
Of course, the first phones that will run on Marshmallow are Google’s new Nexuses (LG Nexus 5 2015 and Huawei Nexus 6 2015), but soon, the update will be available also for the Nexus 5, 6, 9 and Nexus Player. In short time, other brands such as Sony, Motorola, HTC etc. will receive the update as well.
