50 years ago, we didn’t even had mobile phones and now we’re manipulating virtual reality through an advanced headset. Many companies have worked on their own versions of headsets, but the Oculus Rift was the first product that triggered this hysteria.
HTC is trying its luck as well, and Vive is starting to become popular, so we’ll take a look at its specs and make a full comparison with the Oculus Rift.
Rift has a Consumer Edition, which is prettier, but it’s still heavy and large, covering half of the face, as it extends from the forehead to the tip of the nose. The headphones are made of plastic, but they’re not too large, because you wouldn’t be able to hear someone talking in your room, but the sound is decent.
The Vive will be released by the end of 2015 and currently, it needs more touches, because it’s extremely big and it irritates the eyebrows.
The Vive is like a holodeck, creating new dimensions whenever the user walks around and heads to a direction. It offers a full 360-degree experience and when playing a game, you’ll hear accurate tiny machine guns, no matter from what distance they’re shooting.
The Oculus Rift has more like a super-amazing 3D TV with more conventional game soundtracks. There are 20 titles ready to be launched for the Oculus Rift, after the company has founded the developers to create them. The gamers will enjoy playing games such as Edge of Nowhere, if they’ll overcome the motion sickness while exploring a haunted frozen waste; EVE: Valkyrie; Esper; Chronos (third-person RPG).
HTC assures the Vive fans that they will be able to play the games that were created for the Oculus Rift and the headset will be compatible with the Valve games, the Portal and Half-Life threequels etc.
We’re waiting for a lighter version of the Vive headset, which looks more futuristic, and we’re hoping that HTC will make it wireless. But if it will be too revolutionary, the VR fans won’t be able to understand how it works.
The Rift has its advantages, but we can’t influence your decision to buy it. However, we have a hunch that the device will be cheaper than the Vive.
