Today we’re discussing laptops with a high level of portability, meaning that the devices are extremely light and thin. As you might know, if you’re interested in this kind of technology, MacBook Air from Apple has held the title of being the best in this category, but with time, other companies have been creating competition for it. So, in the following article, we’re going to talk about MacBook Air’s rivals that will run the Windows 10 operating system.

We’re going to start with the EliteBook Folio 1020 from HP which has a very nice design made of magnesium and aluminum that is fortified to provide the user a device that will resist to any drops or shocks.

OS X El Capitan, Windows 10

The notebook has a display that measures 12.5 inches and that can render a pixel resolution of 2560×1440. As for processor, we have Intel Core M-5Y71 that clocks in at 1.2 GHz. This device is interesting because it does not have any moving parts, which means it doesn’t have a fan.

Most laptops and computers will show a fan for cooling the device, but the processor of this HP gadget runs cool enough to not need this feature. The gadget shows a lot of features like fingerprint scanner, NFC and a glass ForcePad. Let’s talk about the portability factor. The device has a thickness of 0.62 inches and weighs in at 2.68 pounds, making it very easy to carry around and even fit in a suitcase or a backpack. The price this device retails at is around 1100 US dollars.

Next, we’ll discuss another great device from the category of thin and lightweight notebooks, the Microsoft Surface Pro 3. We’ll start out with display specs: the display on this device can render a pixel resolution of 2160×1440, same as our last discussed ‘mini-laptop’.

The processor on the Surface Pro 3 is a Core i7 which makes the Microsoft notebook basically a high-end product. This device has a clip-on keyboard, and is actually extremely thin and lightweight (0.36 thickness and 1.76 pounds in weight). The price for this device varies from 799 to 1799 US dollars.

Last but not least, we’ll take a look at the Dell XPS 13, which has a very nice design in our opinion, the company using aluminum and carbon fiber to polish a great looking device. The display has Quad QHD+ technology and can render a whooping pixel resolution of 3200×1800. The processor we see on this notebook is a Core i5 5200 U unit that offers some promise in the performance department. As for portability, we’re faced with a device that weighs around 2.6 pounds and that is 0.6 inches thick. The price this gadget retails ranges between 799 and 1299 US dollars.

Considering the great operating system these three will run, we think that they will all be great competition to Apple’s MacBook Air.
