Samsung managed to keep the specs of its new Note 5 phablet secret, but there were many speculations indicating many similarities between it and the Galaxy S6 flagship, which was released this spring.

On August 13, the phablet was unveiled and everything we heard about it turned out to be true. Now, let’s see how changed is the Note 5 compared to its predecessor.

The Note 4 was a good-looking phone, combining the faux leather design from the previous Note 3 with a metal trim that was firstly added to the Galaxy Alpha. This addition made the phone look more elegant, even if the back was still made of plastic. The phablet has a thickness of 8.5mm, a height of 153.5mm, a width of 78.6mm and a weight of 176grams.

The Note 5 was transformed entirely, but it doesn’t have a unique design, because it copies the Galaxy S6, which means that it has glass on both sides, metal trim and the speaker and headphone jack were placed on the bottom edge. The device has the same protruding camera lens and next to the flash sits the built-in optical heart rate sensor, while the home button hides a fingerprint sensor.

Likewise the S6, the Note 5 has a non-removable battery and the internal memory is unexpandable. But, the difference between these devices is that the Note 5 features an S Pen stylus which is inserted inside the device through the dock that is located on the bottom left side. The dimensions of the Note 5 are 153.2×76.1×7.6mm and the device weights 171grams.

The screen size, resolution and pixel density haven’t changed from the previous phone. This means that the Note 5 inherited the 5.7inches Super AMOLED screen that supports QHD resolution of 1440×2560 pixels at 518 ppi, the colors are eye-popping and the blacks are deep.

The Note 4 was available in two variants of processors: quad core 2.7 GHz Krait 450 Qualcomm Snapdragon 805 with Adreno 420 graphics, and octa core Exynos 5433 with a quad-core 1.3GHz Cortex-A53 CPU and a quad-core 1.9 GHz Cortex-A57, coupled with Mali-T760 graphics.

But both models housed 3GB of RAM and 32GB of internal storage, expandable up to 128GB. The Note 4 was very powerful compared to other flagships that were released in 2014, but its processor was built on 32bit architecture. The new Snapdragon 810 problems came with serious heating issues, so Samsung preferred to improve its own Exynos processor, equipping the Galaxy S6 with the7420 model and pairing it with ARM Mali-T760 MP8 graphics and 3GB of RAM. The Note 5 supports multitasking even better with 4GB of RAM. Unfortunately, the internal storage is unexpandable and it comes in variants of 32, 64 and 128GB.

The Note 5 has the same cameras as the Galaxy S6: 16MP on the back with optical image stabilization, an f/1.9 aperture, LED flash, but it doesn’t produce the same accurate colors as the flagship.

There’s a Pro manual mode, the user interface is improved, and the images look great, even if they’re taken in low light conditions. The 2014 model has the same resolution for its main camera, but the one on the front side has a resolution of 3.7MP, which was increased to 5MP on the Note 5.

The Note 4 was powered by a 3220mAh removable battery, which was reduced by 200mAh, because the Note 5 became thinner.
