WhatsApp has finally received one of the most awaited options, which is Google Drive. The new option is now allowing users to save their WhatsApp chat history on the cloud.
How does Google Drive Backup works?
Go to Settings->Chats and Call->Chat Backup and here you will be able to activate the newly added Google Drive backup option.
In case you enable it, you will see that you can set the backups to occur either monthly, weekly, daily or you can even set them manually. Once you enable the Google Drive feature, you will also need to sign in with your Google Account and allow WhatsApp to use your Drive storage.
You can even set the automatic backups to occur only when you are connected to Wi-Fi or both Wi-Fi and cellular connection. In case you don’t have a lot of mobile data from your carrier, then we suggest you to set to perform backups only when you are connected to a Wi-Fi network.
How to get the Google Drive feature on WhatsApp
There are reports which say that the Google Drive option is only working on Android devices that run on Android 5.0 Lollipop or later.
However, it seems that the WhatsApp 2.12.231 brought us the Google Drive option and it was active for every Android device that was running this WhatsApp version.
When the developers released the WhatsApp 2.12.233, it seems that they’ve removed the Google Drive feature. Finally, currently, the latest WhatsApp BETA version is 2.12.235 which brought Google Drive back and it can now be used by anyone.
We’re not sure if the Google Drive option will be once again removed, but in case it will be, don’t worry, because the developers will add it back once all the bugs and other issues are fixed.
