The previous Android 5.x Lollipop builds came with a bug which made the Galaxy Note Edge devices vulnerable to attackers, who were able to steal data from users, after sending them a video MMS message. Once the users accessed it, they gave attackers a free hand to steal their data.

This vulnerability called StageFright has been fixed in Android 5.1 OTA Update and the Note Edge users (who signed a contract with Verizon and T-Mobile) can install it right away. Besides, the Galaxy S4 and Galaxy S4 Active variants will be upgraded to Android 5.0 in short time.

If you’re running a stock ROM on your device, we suggest you to install the new update, because we don’t want you to fall victim to the hackers who can use the StageFright vulnerability to steal your data.

In the first phase, the Note Edge users who signed a contract with Verizon and T-Mobile will start getting the Android 5.1.1 version today, but if the update won’t arrive immediately, there’s no need to panic, because they can manually check for new firmware files if they go to their devices’ Settings> About Phone> Software Updates menu.

The Android 5.1.1 version will be rolled out gradually and at the beginning, only a few Note Edge users will be able to install it, then the remaining users will get it as well.

Luckily, the Galaxy S4 and S4 Active devices can be upgraded now to Android 5.0 Lollipop and this software received also a fix for the Stagefright bug. The users will surely enjoy this version, which comes with Material Design UI and lots of changes: Screen Pinning, lock screen notifications, dynamic status bar, a revamped notifications bar, improved battery stats etc.

The Galaxy S4 handset sold via AT&T has build number LRX22C.1337UCUGOC4, while the Active variant has build number LRX22C.I537UCUCOC7. Before installing the update, we suggest you to connect to a wireless network, because both of the updates have a size of 15MB and if your data plan is limited, you won’t be happy about wasting precious mobile data on downloading files.
