The new Note 5 phablet will be unveiled today and all eyes will be on the Unpacked media event that will take place in New York and which will start at 11am EST (4pm BST). If you want to get your hands on the Lumia 950 XL, you’ll have to wait until September, when the phablet will be released at the IFA event, which will be held in Berlin. We’ll compare the specs of both phones, to help you decide which one to buy.
Designs and displays
The Lumia 950 XL won’t be very different from the other Lumia devices, as it will feature the usual polycarbonate body with flat sides and sharp corners, but it will be available in two variants of colors: white and black. On the back, it will have a camera with large circular and protruding lens. The phablet will be very large, as it will be fitted with a 5.7inches OLED screen that will support QHD resolution of 1440×2560 pixels at 515ppi.
The Galaxy Note 5, on the other hand, will have the same design as the Galaxy S6, which means that it will have glass on both sides and a metallic frame running around the edges. It seems that the corners will be sharper, but the size of the screen will be kept at 5.67inches. The technology will be Super AMOLED, as normal, but Samsung won’t go for 4K resolution, and instead, the phablet will support 2560×1440 pixels.
The Lumia 950 XL will feature the new Qualcomm Snapdragon 810 MSM8994 chipset which houses a 64bit octa core processor consisting of a quad core ARM Cortex-A57 processor and a quad core ARM Cortex-A53 processor, which are backed by Adreno 430 graphics and 3GB of RAM. The built in storage will have a capacity of 32GB, but the phone will be equipped with a microSD card slot, to allow expansion up to 128GB.
The Note 5 will be powered by a faster octa-core 64bit Samsung Exynos 7422 processor which will be coupled with 4GB of RAM and 32GB of internal storage, but luckily, the device will have microSD support up to 128GB.
The Lumia 950 XL will have a 20MP rear camera with Tricolor LED and 1080p HD video capture, while the front camera will be 5MP. The Note 5 hasn’t increased the resolution for its rear camera, only for the front camera, which is now 5MP. However, Samsung improved the camera software, so we should see some amazing shots taken with the Note 5.
The Note 5 will have a more advanced S Pen stylus which will have six Air Commands, including S Note, Smart select, Action memo, Screen Write, Settings and Instagram.
The Lumia 950 XL is expected to cost $650, while the Galaxy Note 5 will be much more expensive at $1000.
