The upcoming Samsung Galaxy S8 Active will be the fifth installment since the first of its kind was released in 2013, the Galaxy S4 Active.
The Korean company has on each and every occasion been following up the standard Galaxy S variant with a model that takes a different direction as far as the design language and material is concerned. And according to the latest leaks, the new Samsung Galaxy S8 Active will be nothing different from the expectations of many fans out there.
To put it plainly, the upcoming Samsung Galaxy S8 Active is a more durable and rugged version of the Galaxy S8. The phone, similar to its predecessor Samsung Galaxy S7 Active, is expected to keep most of the internals you see on the standard Galaxy S8, but there will be massive changes on the external look of the phone alongside a few other tweaks to the internals.
There have been leaks of the images of the phone doing rounds lately. In fact, a video of the same phone recently leaked, giving us full details of what to expect when the phone comes out in the coming days or weeks for that matter. While the video and images only gave us a visual appeal of what to expect, a new leak has surfaced with textual details of what the Galaxy S8 Active will be bringing to the fold when it breaks cover.
From the leak, the upcoming Samsung Galaxy S8 Active will indeed be a great phone for guys who love the hiking life or rather, those who enjoy living on the edge. Unlike the Galaxy S8 that comes with a beautiful glass body with the only metallic section being the frame that joins the front and back panels, the S8 Active has something totally different to offer.
The phone foregoes beauty for robustness, coming in with a military-grade body that is likely to be of the same MIL-STD-810G standard as what appeared on the Galaxy S7 Active. In addition to this military-grade certification, the upcoming Samsung Galaxy S8 Active will also keep the same IP68 dust and waterproof feature that is already available on the standard S8.
With this IP68 certification, it means that the Galaxy S8 Active will still be in a great working condition even after taking a dive of about half an hour in water that is 1.5 meters deep. As noted earlier, this is a phone that perfectly fits the profile of those people who like hiking, biking, nature walks and those other activities that involve a lot of staying outdoors.
Similar to previous Samsung Galaxy Active models, the new Galaxy S8 Active will keep the same screen size as the standard variant of the S8. That is, you will be getting a massive 5.8-inch Super AMOLED display screen with a QHD+ resolution and apparently, the phone will also include an Infinity Display, but there won’t be those beautiful curves you see on the Galaxy S8 and S8+.
For the cameras, the same 12MP dual-pixel lenses will be in place to give you the best shots you’d ever imagine and for the front, you still get an 8MP shooter with enhanced performance. Similar to the standard S8 and S8+, the rugged Samsung Galaxy S8 Active will also come with built-in support for Bixby with a dedicated button, meaning that you won’t be getting the typical Active Key button. Being a U.S.-based model, the phone will use a Snapdragon 835 chipset mated with 4GB RAM and 64GB of internal storage, which will still be expandable via a microSD card.
The phone will also ship with a bigger 4000mAh battery unit to ensure that you don’t suffer “battery low” warnings when you are not about to conclude your hike or camping trip. For the software, the Galaxy S8 Active will be based on the new Android Nougat, but there’s no exact word on whether it will be the newer Android 7.1 Nougat or the original v7.0, but knowing Samsung, the latter is more likely to feature on the phone than the former.
As usual, Samsung Galaxy S8 Active will be an AT&T exclusive, meaning you have to be in the U.S. and ready to use the carrier’s services in order to get your hands on this phone.
