Yesterday the thought of Legendary Pokémon appearing at Go Fest seemed to be wishful thinking. The company revealed that Legendary Pokémon will be available at the event.

Legendary

The Announcement

“As part of our ongoing celebration of Pokémon GO’s one-year anniversary, we’re excited to reveal that Legendary Pokémon are nearly here!” reported the Pokémon Go Live site.

“Soon, millions of Trainers around the world will be able to discover, battle, and catch these extremely rare and very powerful Pokémon.”

The world speculated that Legendary Pokémon would be released through raids. Niantic confirmed that is the case and urged trainers to look out for special Legendary raids.

The announcement comes right after the game was updated to version v0.69.0 for Android and 1.39.0 for IOS. After sources got their hands on the code for the update it was revealed that there will be special passes involved in accessing these special raids.

Can You Catch A Legendary Pokémon?

“If Trainers and their team are able to successfully defeat a Legendary Raid Boss, they’ll have the opportunity to catch a Legendary Pokémon of their own!” according to the release.

“While Legendary Pokémon will help them take on the toughest Raid Bosses and Gym Battles, they’re not willing to leave their Trainer’s side, so they can’t be left to defend Gyms.”

The answer is yes you can catch them and even use them in a battle. The bad news is, you won’t be able to leave these Legendary Pokémon to defend gyms.

When Will We See The Legendary Pokémon?

“On July 22, thousands of Trainers in Grant Park for Pokémon GO Fest and the millions of others around the world will be working together to unlock in-game bonuses for the entire Pokémon GO community,” according to the release.

“If they manage to catch enough Pokémon during the Pokémon GO Fest Challenge Windows, the first Legendary Pokémon will be revealed in Grant Park. If the Trainers in Chicago succeed in defeating the Legendary Pokémon, that Pokémon will start appearing in Raid Battles around the world, after Pokémon GO Fest.”

Mystic7 you were right buddy, Legendaries will be at Pokémon Go Fest. It is important to forget that players around the world will also have a chance to take down and catch these Pokémon as well.

Trainers just need to be a little patient and make sure they participate in the event.

Which Legendary Pokémon Will Be Available?

Paired with the announcement was an incredible video similar to the one that was released just before the launch of the game.

The video shows trainers gathering in a city and participating in gym battles and interacting with each other. Then, out of nowhere, a special Legendary Raid Egg appears. The Timer counts down and out bursts 5 instantly recognizable Legendary Pokémon.

In the trailer we see, Moltres, Zapdos, Articuno, Ho-Oh and the big bad Lugia. Towards the trailers conclusion, Mewtwo can be seen flying into space from Earth. There was no sign of Mew or the generation two Legendary Pokémon.

There is no telling which will be the first Legendary Pokémon that trainers will have to battle at Grant Park. Given the amount of screen-time Lugia had in the trailer, we are leaning towards it being the one.

There is also a possibility that more than one Legendary is released. Mystic7 shared a screenshot of Grant Park in the game and there are four gyms in the vicinity. Could Niantic release multiple Legendaries and have trainers rotate to try and catch them all? It’s definitely a possibility but not something we can confirm.

This summer is going to be as Legendary as Niantic promised. The skepticism is out the window and all of the surprises, to our knowledge, have been released.

Restoring Faith In The Game

With the latest announcement, Niantic has completely restored faith in the game for trainers. The game was filled with unknowns, and we’re not talking about the Pokémon. However, by now, we need to expect that if anything can save the game, it’s an update or an event.

This time we got both and it’s such an amazing feeling to know exactly what the company behind the game is capable of. There is a clear path and as Mystic7 said, the future looks very bright.

Fans took to responding to the Pokémon GO App’s tweet. There were trolls but the overall feeling was excitement. This newly found excitement is just what the game was missing in months past.

Now, Niantic has bragging rights for dropping so many new features in a small amount of time. Before we go screaming gen 3, we really have to give them their props.

The only question to ask now is: which Legendary Pokémon are you looking forward to catching the most?
