The iPad mini 4 was released in 2015 and last year, Apple skipped the iPad mini 5, disappointing fans who were waiting for a new 7.9-inch tablet. The iPad mini lineup will be refreshed this year, and rumors say that the company will bring it next month. Below we’ll tell you about possible specs and features of the upcoming device.
Display and Design
We’ll start with the screen, which will have the same size of 7.9-inch as its predecessor. The Retina display could come with an increased resolution than 1536 x 2048 pixels, while the exterior of the tablet will be made of aluminum, as usual, while the material will be more durable, because it’s the same one used to build the iPhone 6s and iPhone 7. Apparently, the device will be thinner (5mm) and lighter than the iPad mini 4.
The iPad mini 5 will be powered by either A9 or the A10 processor, which will be coupled with a M9 co-processor and 3GB of RAM. Apple will offer three variants of internal memories of 32 GB, 64 GB and 128 GB, but it’s not sure what iOS version will be installed on it. Currently, Apple is testing out iOS 10.3 beta, and it’s too early to talk about iOS 11.
Cameras and Battery
Rumors say that Apple will not upgrade the cameras and will stick to the 8MP and 1.2MP resolutions. The battery of the new tablet will be smaller in case the chassis will shrink, but it could benefit for a new technology that will allow iPad mini 5’s usage capabilities to not be compromised.
Reports suggest that the iPad mini 5 will support 3D Touch, the feature that was introduced in the iPhone 6s. The tablet could be IP68 certified, meaning that it will be water-resistant, and the 3.5mm headphone jack could be removed.
The 32GB model is expected to be sold for $399, which is the old pricing model.
