Samsung fans have been eagerly waiting for the Galaxy Tab S3 since it was announced on September 2016. Everyone was hoping that the new tablet would be released before or during the holiday season, but Christmas has come and gone without any sign of the device.
Fortunately, there’s some good news: according to reports, the South Korean tech giant will launch the Galaxy Tab S3 during this year’s CES, which will take place on January 5 to 8 in Las Vegas, Nevada. A quick look at the CES website shows that Samsung has already scheduled a news conference on January 4 at 2:00 P.M., leading many people to speculate that the Tab S3 will be one of the things that would be launched during this event.
Still Late to the Party
Even if this would happen, it still wouldn’t erase the fact that Samsung has been late in releasing the Galaxy Tab S3. Historically, Tab S devices were rolled out a few months after Galaxy S smartphones were released. The Samsung Galaxy Tab S 8.4 and Galaxy Tab S 10.5, for example, were released on July 2014 — three months after the Galaxy S5 was rolled out on April 2014. The Samsung Galaxy Tab S2 8.0 and Galaxy Tab S2 9.7, on the other hand, were made available on September 2015, five months after the April 2015 release of the Galaxy S6.
If this pattern was followed, we could have seen the Samsung Galaxy Tab S3 in the middle of 2016. The Galaxy S7 was made available on March 2016, which means that the Galaxy Tab S3 should have been released on August or September — or at least before the year ended.
Samsung has not given an official explanation as to why the Galaxy Tab S3 is behind schedule. So we really don’t know whether it’s having problems with the production process or if it’s just a marketing ploy to make fans more excited about the tablet. Either way, tech experts point out that Samsung needs to hurry with the device’s release while its specs are still relevant and interest in the product is still at a fever pitch.
What Can We Expect to See in the Tab S3?
Speaking of specs, Samsung has been tight-lipped about the features that the Galaxy Tab S3 would have. This isn’t really surprising, though, since the company has always been secretive about its upcoming devices. Fortunately, there are rumors and leaks floating around online, giving us possible ideas about what the Tab S3 would look like and how it would function.
One of these leaks comes from noted tipster Evan Blass, who posted a picture on Twitter showing possible renders of the tablet. Sean Keach of Trusted Reviews pointed out that, according to the renders, the Galaxy Tab S3 would have a display aspect ratio of 16:10 instead of 4:3. This may or may not delight Samsung fans, depending on their individual preferences.
It’s important to note, though, that all of these are rumors and reports. We still have to wait for Samsung’s official statements regarding the Galaxy Tab S3 and hope that the company will launch the tablet during CES 2017.
