Android 7.0 (popularly known as Nougat) has already been released to certain Google devices like Nexus 5X, Nexus 6, Nexus 6P, Nexus 9, Nexus Player, and Pixel C. This has left many Motorola device owners wondering: when will we get the Nougat update in our gadgets?

The answer seems to be “Soon”. Lenovo, which bought Motorola from Google, has not made any announcement as to when Android Nougat would be available for Motorola phones. However, tech experts believe that Motorola devices will receive the update as early as next month.

This isn’t surprising since Motorola has always been early when it comes to rolling out the latest Android updates. Last year, for example, Motorola gadgets received the Android Marshmallow update right after Nexus devices did. If this pattern is repeated this year, there definitely is a chance that Motorola mobile devices will indeed receive the Android Nougat update anytime soon.

Reports have revealed that bigger and newer Motorola models, including the Moto Z, Moto Z Droid, Moto Z Force, and Moto Z Force Droid will get Android Nougat on October. Meanwhile, the Moto X Play, Moto X Style, and Moto X Force, will receive the update on November. Other models — including the Moto G4 Play, Moto G (third generation) and Moto E (third generation) — will get Nougat later on, perhaps early next year.

These are only tentative schedules, though, and have not been confirmed by Lenovo and Google. Also, it’s important to note that Google has not yet released the source code of the newest Android OS to phone manufacturers (they’re expected to do so later this month). Considering that manufacturers require a substantial amount of time to customize the source code for their devices, we still have to wait and see if Lenovo really could rollout the Nougat update for Motorola phones next month.

Not all Motorola devices are scheduled to receive the update, though. Lenovo has revealed that the second-generation Moto X won’t get the firmware update because its processor is not compatible with the latest Android OS. Those who own this model may want to upgrade to a newer device or make do with older Android firmware.

Android Nougat is a much-awaited update because of its excellent features. It will bring about VR interface, Google Assistant, and Screen Zoom as well as better power efficiency, multi-window experience, and new emojis.
