The MacBook Pro 2016 is rumored to be released in the fourth quarter of the year. But, even if it’s not yet around, a lot of people are already asking: should I wait for it to be released, or should I go ahead and buy a Windows 10 laptop now?

If you’re asking yourself the same question, you can use this guide to help you decide:

Internals

No one’s really sure yet what processor the MacBook Pro 2016 would have, but it’s rumored to be built with a Kaby Lake processor from Intel. It’s also said to have new AMD GPU that’s based on the 14-nanometer Polaris 11, which would allow it to create a high-performance computer in a thinner body. Windows 10 laptops, on the other hand, have different internals. The Dell XPS 15, for example, has an Intel Skylake chip and an NVIDIA GTX 960M graphics card.

Operating System

Obviously, Windows 10 laptops are running on Microsoft’s one-year-old operating system. The MacBook Pro 2016, meanwhile, will reportedly run on macOS Sierra, which will include virtual assistant Siri, a new file system, and Apple Pay capability.

Screen Size

The MacBook Pro 2016 will reportedly have two variants: one with a 13-inch screen and another with a 15-inch screen. Windows 10 laptops also run the gamut in terms of screen size; there’s the 11.6-inch Acer Chromebook R11, the 13.5-inch Microsoft Surface Book, and the 15.6-inch HP Spectre x360 15.

Storage

Again, no one is exactly sure about the storage capacity of the MacBook Pro 2016, but there are rumors that it will have a 1TB storage system. There are several Windows 10 laptops that can compete in this aspect, including the Dell  Inspiron 15.6-inch Laptop, the HP 15-BA079DX 15.6-inch Touch-Screen Laptop, and the Asus Q504UA 2-in-1 Touch-Screen Laptop, all of which have a storage system of 1 terabyte.

Versatility

There have been some rumors that the MacBook Pro 2016 will get a detachable screen and keyboard, but these have been disputed by many tech experts since Apple already has this kind of device, aka the iPad Pro. So, while the MacBook Pro 2016 won’t be able to give touchscreen laptops and detachable 2-in-1s a run for their money, the iPad Pro is there to do the work.

Verdict

The choice between the MacBook Pro 2016 and a Windows 10 laptop highly depends on you. If you’re an Apple fan and are excited to get your hands on the latest MacBook, then you’ll probably want to wait for Apple’s newest laptop. But, if you need to buy a new laptop ASAP and can’t wait for the Q4 2016 release, you might want to consider a Windows 10 laptop. Either way, it’s important to do your research to know which make and model best fits your needs.
