There are lots of hidden settings on a Windows 10 that are very well kept from inexperienced eyes of users in the Windows registry. However, if you inform yourself beforehand, you can get access to lots of cool stuff you never knew about! In order to make some modifications, type regedit in the taskbar search box and launch the app. The following edits shouldn’t cause problems, but be careful if you play around, since this might seriously damage your Windows.
- Switch to the dark theme
For this you need to make a Personalised key, so you have to follow the path HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\ SOFTWARE\ Microsoft\ Windows\ CurrentVersion\ Themes. There, create a DWORD value in it, name it AppsUseLightTheme and make it 0. Do the same for HKEY_CURRENT_USER \ SOFTWARE \ Microsoft \ Windows \ CurrentVersion \ Themes and then you will see the dark theme appear.
- Make the PC start up faster.
Windows delays some apps that start up on boot so that it can start up faster, but in case you don’t have many apps like this, disabling this feature means a couple of seconds won. Follow the path HKEY_CURRENT_USER\ Software\ Microsoft\ Windows\ CurrentVersion\ Explorer\ Serialize and create a new DWORD named StartupDelayInMSec. Set it to 0.
- Make the taskbar more transparent. For this you also need to go to Personalization, but for even more transparency, follow the path HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\ SOFTWARE\ Microsoft\ Windows\ CurrentVersion\ Explorer\ Advanced. Create a DWORD value called UseOLEDTaskbarTransparency and set the value to 1.
Remember to make a backup copy of the initial registry, just in case something goes wrong. If you want to go back to the initial state, simply delete the file you have created and restart the computer.
