Fans of The Elder Scrolls are impatiently waiting for Bethesda to make an announcement about the sixth installment of the popular video game series.
A lot of them are expecting the game developer to reveal TES 6 (also nicknamed Skyrim 2) during E3 2016, which will take place on June 14 to 16. This is due to the fact that, a few months ago, Bethesda announced their participation in E3 by tweeting a picture of several characters from their video games. One of these characters came from The Elder Scrolls series, causing many fans to think that TES 6 will be unveiled during the event.
This is highly unlikely since Bethesda is focused on other titles as of the moment. The developer has just released Far Harbor, which is touted as the biggest DLC for their other popular game Fallout 4. They’re set to release Dark Brotherhood — a DLC for The Elder Scrolls Online: Tamriel Unlimited — on May 31 for Microsoft Windows and June 14 for Xbox One and PlayStation 4. They’re also expected to roll out The Elder Scrolls: Legends, a collectible card game for iOS and Microsoft Windows.
With these releases, it’s easy to see that the developer is focusing its resources on projects other than The Elder Scrolls 6. However, this doesn’t mean that Bethesda is abandoning the game completely. In fact, several fans have noticed that the game developer has been posting job ads for Quest Designers who, among several requirements, must have experience with using The Elder Scrolls Construction Set. This has led many to believe that Bethesda is looking for additional manpower and creating a team to focus on developing TES 6.
This doesn’t mean, though, that we’ll see Skyrim 2 this year. Bethesda is not known for releasing half-baked games, so it makes sense if they’d stick to their traditional turnaround time of four years. (Morrowind was released in 2002, Oblivion was released in 2006, Skyrim was released in 2011, and Tamriel Unlimited was released in 2015). If this happens, we can expect to see TES 6 in 2019 or 2020.
We may even find out that The Elder Scrolls 6 is not Skyrim 2. Bethesda VP for PR and Marketing Pete Hines mentioned Skyrim 2 when he was interviewed by The Telegraph, but this doesn’t mean that it would be the title of TES 6. Many gaming experts believe that Bethesda will use a location that hasn’t been heavily featured in previous games. If this is the case, Skyrim is out of the equation since it was a huge part of TES 5 (the same goes for Morrowind, which was the location of TES 3).
The most viable choice is Black Marsh. According to reports, Bethesda had patented the name “Argonia”, which is the name of a reptilian race that lives in Black Marsh, prompting many to think that it would be the location of TES 6.
