According to an earnings reports released by Sony recently, over 40 million PlayStation 4 consoles have been sold all over the world. Sony has sold almost 18 million PlayStation 4 consoles in 2015, compared to only 14.8 million consoles that it sold in 2014. Even if the revenue has gotten down by 1.3% year over year, Sony has reported that it has earned 2.6 billion dollars in 2015. The sales in 2015 have reached 13.7 billion dollars, with an income of 785 million dollars.
At the same time, Sony has reported that it was a 50% increase in digital sales on its PlayStation Network, which is also a contributing factor to the year-over-the-year growth. Also, the PlayStation 4 console cost has been decreased, which also boosted the sales of this console in 2015.
Sony has come with regular updates on the PlayStation 4 sales, but for some reason, Microsoft didn’t do that and this might have helped Sony. According to Microsoft, the Xbox One sales were not yet disclosed, but it is estimated that the company has sold a total of 19-20 million Xbox One consoles, which is about half of how many PlayStation 4 consoles have been sold.
We remind you that Sony is expected to continue its strong sales of the PlayStation 4 thanks to its upcoming PlayStation VR, a virtual reality headset, that will cost 399 dollars and it will be released in October 2016. Let’s not forget that the upcoming “Uncharted 4: A Thief’s End” will be released soon and we’re pretty sure that a good amount of gamers will purchase the game digitally. Sony will most likely release a bundle of the Uncharted 4: A Thief’s End and PS4, which once again, will boost its sales.
