Sony Xperia UK has confirmed on Twitter the list of devices that are scheduled to be upgraded to Android 6.0 Marshmallow on March 7: Xperia Z5, Xperia Z4 Tablet and Xperia Z3+. Back in October, Sony has announced that some of these devices will receive the latest Android firmware in the first quarter of 2016.
Lawyer Herald has made some predictions on Twitter, but the update wasn’t pushed through at those rumored dates, but now that March 7 has been confirmed, it seems that the report, according to which the Xperia Z5 and Xperia Z3+ will be the first devices that will receive Marshmallow, starts to make sense.
According to XperiaBlog.net, the Xperia Z3+ will receive the build number 32.1.A.0.434 which was certified by the PTRCB. “Yes, this is the Android 6.0 Marshmallow release and compares to the current firmware version 28.0.A.8.272 (Android 5.0.2 Lollipop)”, was written in XperiaBlog.net’s report, in which was added that “Perhaps, yesterday’s reported release date of 7 March is true after all. If this firmware is the official final release, then expect the same build number to appear on the Xperia Z5 series as well as the Xperia Z4 tablet.” And by saying “yesterday’s reported release date of 7 March”, XperiaBlog.net was referring to Sony Mobile UK’s answer on Twitter, when asked by a fan when the Marshmallow update will roll out to the Xperia devices. The answer was: “It’s set to roll out from March 7 for Xperia Z5 series, Z4 Tablet and Z3+. We will share confirmed timings when it’s ready”.
The Xperia Z4 Tablet and Xperia Z3+ smartphone have been released in June 2015 with Android 5.0 Lollipop out of the box, while the Xperia Z5 arrived much later, in October, with 5.1.1 Lollipop. We won’t be seeing the next Xperia Z6 released in the near future, as Sony has unveiled the current Z flagships at the IFA event in Berlin, which took place in September.
