Sony has confirmed that the Android 5.1.1 Lollipop update has been released for its Xperia M2 (single and dual sim) and Xperia M2 Aqua devices.
We remind you that many Sony Xperia devices are already running on the Android 5.1.1 Lollipop, so we’re sure that many expected that these two (three) devices will receive the latest Android OS version.
You should know that the Android 6.0 Marshmallow will be released for the public on October 5, but that’s another story.
The Android 5.1.1 Lollipop will be released in stages and depending on your country of origin and the chosen phone carrier, you will receive the Android 5.1.1 Lollipop sooner or later.
With other words, the devices we’ve mentioned above will directly jump from Android KitKat 4.4.4 to Android Lollipop 5.1.1. The Android 5.1.1 Lollipop that will be released for the Xperia M2 and Xperia M2 Aqua will be released with the build number 18.6.A.175.
The new Android 5.1.1 Lollipop that will be released for these two devices will also fix the Stagefright vulnerability issue that allowed hackers to gain full control to the infected devices. They were sending a MMS and once the user opened it, the hackers accessed all the personal data that they had stored on their smartphones.
In concordance with BGR, the new update also comes with the integration of LinkedIn application with the Calendar and Contacts applications. The new update also brings the Wi-Fi and Bluetooth options in the notifications menu. With other words, you will no longer need to go to your phone’s settings in order to access these two options.
Once you update your Xperia M2 or M2 Aqua to Android 5.1.1 Lollipop, you will also notice that the operating system is more stable and that the improved ART (Android Run Time) is helping the applications to run smoother than before. The “Ok Google” issues have also been fixed and you can use this feature without any problems from now on.
Once the update is available for your Xperia M2 or Xperia M2 aqua you will get prompted. You can also manually check for the update by going to your device’s Settings->About Phone->System Update->Check For Updates. Before you start the update, we suggest you to make sure that your device has at least 70% battery left, so that it will not shutdown during the updating process.
