The release date of Android 6.0 Marshmallow is getting closer and today, Google has explained how the Google Play Services 8.1 update will help the app developers to get prepared for the upcoming Android OS.

Google Play Services 8.1 comes with a few big changes, such as the Android 6.0 Marshmallow permissions, which will allow the users to have control on what each application can access.

With other words, the developers will need to enable this feature on their applications or else their applications will not be compatible with the upcoming Android 6.0 Marshmallow.

Google Play Services 8.1 also comes with an improved version of App Invites, which will allow the developers to customize the email invitation that a users sends when (s)he wants to invite someone to try out an application. The developers will be able to even add an image to the custom invitation.

The new Google Play Services 8.1 also comes with Ambient Mode Maps, which will allow Android Wear to use Google Maps in ambient mode. In this mode, the maps will use a low-color rendering in order to save the battery life, while retaining the camera and zoom, so that you will still be able to know what’s going on.

The Nearby Status Listener is another feature that Google Play Services 8.1 comes with. This new feature allows your application to receive callbacks when an active “Nearby” publish or subscribe expires. With other words, this will allow the application user interface to accurately reflect whether Nearby is active or not.

The new Play Games Stats API will allow the developers to build smarter and better games. The developers will also be able to see if most of the valuable players are returning to their games after a break. This way, the developers will be able to send a welcome back message to the returning players, along with a reward.

If you are an Android developer, you should definitely test out the new Google Play Services 8.1 and get your applications/games ready for the upcoming Android 6.0 Marshmallow.
