The all-metal design of the One M8 received many positive reviews and the manufacturer was so pleased by the result that the successor is almost identical. It has the same front panel and curved back with two horizontal strips at the top and bottom, only that the lenses of the rear camera are rectangular, not circular.

It’s the same story with the OnePlus 2, which is similar to the first model, only that the body form is rectangular and the camera is placed lower. Below, there’s a detailed comparison between the two phones.

Dimensions and Displays

As we were saying, the HTC One M9 has a (brushed) metal body like the previous model, but with small tweaks and a slight increase in thickness of only 0.2mm, now measuring 9.6mm.

The device weights 157grams, with 3grams less than the predecessor, but the screen is unchanged, being a Super LCD3 sized at 5-inch, which offers Full HD resolution of 1080 x 1920 pixels at 441 ppi. The new model is available in the following variants of colors: Gunmetal Gray, Amber Gold, Silver/Rose gold and Gold/Pink, so if you like a two-tone design, one of the last two variants will please your eyes.

The OnePlus hasn’t “touched” the LTPS LCD screen, which has the same size of 5.5-inch and resolution of 1080 x 1920 pixels with 401ppi. In terms of design, you’ll notice the new fingerprint scanner integrated into a home button which sits between the two blue capacitive buttons. The device has a thickness of 9.9mm and it weights 175grams, while the default back cover has a Sandstone Black texture. Luckily, there are plenty other variants of more premium materials you can choose from.

Hardware

Both phones come with a Qualcomm MSM8994 Snapdragon 810 chipset which is powered by two quad core processors, Cortex-A53 and Cortex-A57, but they have different clock speeds: the One M9 has its processors clocked at 1.5GHz and 2GHz respectively, while the OnePlus 2 has its processors running at 1.56GHz and 1.82GHz. The graphics are Adreno 430 on both devices, so you should have a great gaming experience.

Nexus 6 vs. OnePlus 2

Also, both devices have 3GB of RAM, but the OnePlus 2 offers a second variant with 4GB of RAM for the model with 64GB of storage. The default model houses a memory of only 16GB, but it can’t be expanded. The One M9 comes with a microSD card slot, so you’ll increase the internal memory of 32GB up to 128GB.

Cameras

The One M9 no longer has a dual-camera on the back, but a simple camera with a high resolution of 20MP, but it doesn’t include optical image stabilization, and the rest of the features are dual-LED flash, HDR and 2160p video capture at 30fps. The front camera is 4MP Ultrapixel, which was moved from the back of the One M8.

The OnePlus 2 takes photos with a 13MP primary camera which supports OIS, laser autofocus, dual-LED flash, HDR and has the same video recording capabilities. The front camera is slightly more advanced, supporting 5MP.

Batteries

The 2840mAh battery powering up the One M9 competes with OnePlus 2’s 3300mAh, but only the first device supports Quick Charge 2.0, which was integrated to the Qualcomm chipset.
